Governments attach great importance to the work of Eco-Leather Mark

On 3 December 2009, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology introduced an important policy guidance document, namely Guiding Options of Tanning Industry Structural Adjustment (Guiding Options for short), as an accompanying document of Light industry adjustment and revitalization plan.

Guiding Opinions require specifically that through the development of Eco-Leather Mark, promoting industrial transformation and upgrading, boosting development of eco-tanning, so as to reinforcing local brand recognition. The guideline encourages company’s involvement in the certification of Eco-Leather Mark, and competent departments should give priority support to Eco-Leather Mark companies in finical credit and technical innovation.

Eco-Leather Mark, introduced by China Leather Industry Association in 2003, is the first certification mark of eco-leather (finished) products internationally. Eco-Leather Mark specifies strictly in terms of the quality of leather, the contents of special chemicals, the processing technical of tanning, pollutions treatment and social responsibility, and especially implement one vote veto in the aspect of environment protection. Governments have attached great importance to Eco-Leather Mark because of its positive effect to the industry.

Officer of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology points out, in his interpretation of Guiding Options, that in recent years, by the system of one vote veto and strict supervision and dynamic evaluation, China Leather Industry Association has maintained the advantages of Eco-Leather Mark, and the companies with Eco-Leather Mark certification, who perform as the pioneers on energy saving and emission reduction, environmental protection and brand building and meanwhile pioneer of researching eco-tanning technical and brand innovation, are all deserve support from governments.
